Do you drink enough water?

Do you drink enough water?

Water is a vital drink that we should learn to drink well.

What does water do for the body?

Water regulates temperature and maintains physical activity and is important for all cells, organs and tissues of the body. The role of water is to transport waste products produced in metabolism and release them through urine, sweat, breathing and through digestion.

How much water should we drink?

It would be best to drink water whenever we are thirsty. Some people do not have a feeling of thirst and mistake thirst for hunger and therefore have a snack instead of a glass of water, which would beat this feeling of hunger. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least 8 glasses of water (2 liters) a day. Juices and other drinks contain water but also other substances such as sugar, artificial sugar and caffeine. Coffee drinks affect the body's water supply because they are diuretics, i.e. we release more water from the body. It is therefore a good idea to drink a glass of water after every cup of coffee or drink that contains caffeine.

We need water every day

The body's total daily water loss is about 2 to 2 1/2 liters. It is therefore necessary to make up for this loss in order to maintain the body's function and so that it is in balance.

Food and water

The best option to meet your water needs is clean water. Food contains water, although it varies, but especially fruits and vegetables contain a lot of water, cf. cucumbers and watermelons which are about 90% water. Besides the good vitamins and minerals we get from consuming it, a good supplement is to eat plenty of vegetables and fruits and then drink clean and good water.

Individuals' water needs can vary, as can environmental conditions such as physical exertion, exercise and climate, i.e. if we are in a too hot climate and sweat a lot then it is important to replace the water loss.

Drinking too much water can also be undesirable as good substances are washed out of the body. When we talk about drinking too much water, we mean exceeding the daily requirement (2 liters) and conditions do not require increased water drinking, as listed above.

Water has functions in the body such as regulating body temperature and sending brain messages. If the body's fluid level is lost by 2%, it affects the short-term memory. Then it's a good idea to get up from work, if we feel tired, and get some water to drink.

Drinking at least 5 glasses of water a day can reduce the chances of disease and other physical ailments.

Let's start with a glass of water

If we feel the symptoms of fatigue and lack of energy, the explanation could be due to dehydration in the tissues of the body, which is often called dehydration, and this then affects the activity of enzymes and the result is that the body loses energy.

Some signs of dehydration in the body:

  • Dryness:  Dry lips, dry skin, dryness around the eyes and dry hair
  • Inflammation:  Rashes, clogged pores that form pimples, red eyes
  • Color of pee:  The first pee of the morning is dark yellow in color instead of light yellow (not clear)
  • Constipation:  if you have not had a bowel movement for a day or more
  • Sweating: little or no sweat during exertion

We at Feel Iceland encourage everyone to drink water and we have put together a good morning drink to start the day. A morning drink that wakes up all the cells in the body, rids us of waste products and boosts energy.

Let's start with one glass of water on an empty stomach.

Then we mix together:

  • 1 large glass of lukewarm water
  • 1 spoon pure collagen
  • 2 teaspoons chia seeds
  • ½ lemon (juice) and slice into the glass
  • ½-1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/4 -1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Mint (optional)

Heat the water and pour into a glass, add collagen and chia seeds and let cool slightly. Then everything is mixed together. It is good to put everything in a blender, but it is not necessary at all.

Serve in a pretty glass, with a lemon wedge and mint.

Icelandic water is a resource that increases our strength and stamina.

Let's choose only the best!

Kind regards,

Feel Iceland
