PROTEIOS OR FIRST SEAT

What is Protein?

Protein is derived from the Greek word proteios which means "main" or "first place", which perhaps says enough about how important proteins are as a source of energy and building blocks of the body. We need protein along with fat and carbohydrates to get adequate energy beyond our basic energy needs. The genetic material (DNA -RNA) controls how we then use these amino acids by arranging them together to build proteins where they are needed during chemical reactions, for hormones, as maintenance and building materials for bones, tissues, skin, hair and nails.

Utilization of proteins

The digestive system uses enzymes to break down protein from the food and thereby creates amino acids, which are often called building blocks for so many aspects of the body's functions.

In our genome there are 20 types of amino acids and in addition there are 2 types outside of that, making a total of 22 types that we use to maintain our health. Nutrition is extremely important because the body needs 9 types of these 22 from food to build all proteins. Deficiency of these species can lead to serious diseases.

The vital amino acids are precursors of neurotransmitters in the brain and are important for digestion and thus metabolism. Some types of hormones in the body consist of amino acids, this also applies to antibodies, which then affect the immune system. It is therefore important during illness or during times of stress to get protein or amino acids.

Why should we need a food supplement?

According to research on the diet of Icelanders, we are well placed here in Iceland as far as protein intake is concerned. However, there is another aspect that is no less important that needs to be looked at, and that aspect relates to digestion and the different needs of individuals.

People's protein needs vary and body condition matters. The need depends on age, health and body size. The digestive system must be in good condition, such as digestive enzymes that break down proteins into amino acids, and the quality of the proteins in the food must be good. Some health experts have put it this way that health problems in the coming years will be because we have too low stomach acids and thus digestion will not be as good. In order for us to break down the food and use it, the digestive enzymes and the intestinal flora need to be in balance, i.e. the digestive enzymes need to be high enough to, for example, break down proteins in the food so that amino acids are produced. The intestinal flora must be good or in the right proportion to the intestinal flora that is considered to have a bad effect on health. An imbalance in the intestinal flora can affect good digestion and thus the absorption of nutrients. All these factors can then affect our health. When we get sick or are under physical and/or emotional strain and stress, or even not eating enough healthy food, despite the fact that we think we are eating enough protein, the body's ability or ability to absorb amino acids is different from the mucous membrane of the digestive system and into the blood, which then distributes them to places where they are needed.

What does collagen do other than protein in food?

What makes the collagen an excellent food supplement is that the absorption of the amino acids is considered to be better since the collagen is hydrolysed and thus each amino acid passes through the digestive tract and is ready for absorption. With this, we have ensured that we get good building materials to help us against the ailments that we believe are affecting our health and well-being.

Each amino acid has a role that can make a difference in the health of the human body. A perfect mix of amino acids are found in the animal kingdom. Those who are vegan therefore need to be careful with the composition of their food and make sure to have a variety of foods to meet the requirement of getting all amino acids.

There is a reason why recommendations such as tam from the Office of the National Health Service are issued with a variety of foods in all food groups. Not too much or too little energy. We are still dealing with varying degrees of health problems or ailments such as hair loss and joint inflammation despite eating healthy and nutritious food. This is where the intake of collagen could help, as it is, as previously mentioned, predigested and therefore easier to digest.

Everyone is responsible for their own health, so it is important not to give up on finding out what it is that can help to achieve better health and thereby improve the quality of life. The most important thing is that we know our body and know what is best for it and choose what we think is good for our health.

Why collagen?

Amino acids such as arginine, glutamine, glycine and proline are considered to be the best combination of amino acids in the formation of collagen fibers. However, proline and glycine play a central role. They ensure that the body builds its own amino acids and thus maintains good health.

Quality collagen derived from fish is believed to help with so many factors by being high quality amino acids that can reduce or alleviate joint pain, maintain muscle tone, reduce hair loss, improve and increase skin moisture, strengthen nails and most importantly not least important for the bones, but 30% of the bones is collagen. It is also believed to improve sleep quality and improve digestion and the immune system.

Choosing a healthy and good lifestyle is important, especially in this day and age. If illness or stress strikes, amino acids from seafood are a good way to build up and maintain overall health and a fresh appearance.
